Redundancy Victimisation And Worse

The current recession and slow recovery is as is normal in such times, giving an excuse for unscrupulous employers to cut their workforce by any means necessary.

The Institute of Employment Rights is holding a one day conference at the Adelphi Hotel in Liverpool aimed at supporting Unions and their reps to combat the use of redundancy, and victimisation in order to dismiss employees.

Having identified the most common issues that crop up day to day, the conference will bring together legal, trade union and social policy experts to determine what we as trade unionists can do to help protect our members and ensure workers rights are not undermined.

* Hear direct from a GMB organiser how the Leeds Refuse Workers fought and won their battle to fight the Council’s plans to use equal pay legislation to reduce wages.

* Find out how Unison is representing a Steward who is being victimised for playing a role in the dispute.

* Get accurate and up to date information from legal experts at Thompsons’s Solicitors, including changes to contracts, redundancy entitlements, grievance and disciplinary procedures, and the new ACAS Code of Practice on Time Off for Trade Union Duties.

Information stalls for personalised one to one advice from specialists, Merseyside Welfare Rights Resource Centre, the Debt and Money Advice Network, and Merseyside will also be available to conference attendees.
